Why it matters

A shopper who opens search already knows what they want: "black dress," "linen pants," "white shirt." This is your hottest visitor. Classic search makes them type the full query, hit a button, wait for a results page — and only then find out whether the item exists. On a phone, every one of those steps is a chance to get distracted and close the tab.

Fashion CMS live search shows results right below the search field as people type. Matching categories appear from the first letters, followed by the products themselves — with photo, name and price.

How it drives sales

  • A shorter path to the product. The right item shows up before the shopper finishes typing. One tap and they're on the product page.
  • Fewer empty results. Category suggestions steer broad queries into the right part of the catalog, where filters and sorting take over.
  • Photos decide faster than words. In fashion, shoppers recognize "the one" by its picture, and the price next to it instantly answers "is it in my budget?"
  • Search as analytics. Shopper queries reveal what people look for most and what's missing from your range — valuable for buying and content.

How it works

  1. The shopper taps the search field and sees popular searches set by your team.
  2. From the first letters, matching categories appear below the field with item counts.
  3. Below them — products: thumbnail, name, product type and price; discounted items show both old and new price.
  4. As the query gets more specific, the list updates without reloading the page.
  5. Tapping a product opens its page, tapping a category opens the catalog with the query applied, and "All results" opens the full results page.

What search looks at

Source Example
Product name MILANO, NIZZA
Category and product type dresses, coats, midi dress
Color and attributes black, linen, oversized
SKU search by product code for regulars and staff

For your team

In the CMS you set popular searches, synonyms ("hoodie" = "sweatshirt," "blazer" = "jacket") and the order of blocks in suggestions. Hidden and discontinued products never appear in search. If an item is out of stock, search can still show it — so shoppers can sign up for a restock alert instead of leaving empty-handed.

Mobile first

Search is designed for the phone first: a large input field at the top, results within thumb's reach, photos big enough to recognize the item. Recent searches are saved, and products the shopper already opened are easy to get back to through Recently viewed.
